Kodi with a View
We needed to be trekking before the sun got too hot. We had an early breakfast of egg dosai in a fancy restaurant which was nice. We then headed off towards the lake. We would try to see a lot of the Kodai scenery today. The first place we stumbled upon was a hostel with spectacular views. Next a small church up on a hill and then a tea stall, with delicious masala tea, right next to a pretty waterfall.
We visited many points along the road and along small tracks. Suicide Point, Guna cave, Pillar Rock, Dolphin Nose, Echo rock ...the scenery was absolutely spectacular with views across the hills and small villages in the distance.
Some of the time we walked, some of the long boring stretches we picked up a lift.
The first lift was from two young men who were on holiday from Chennai. One told us his sister lived in Coventry. A little later, we were walking along the road and they stopped and gave us another lift to the next viewpoint.
Whilst walking through one small village a rather aggresive dog ensured we didn't stick around for long! We saw a lot of monkeys and most just sat and watched as we walked passed. However, on our way back a large monkey came running at us and was hissing. Usually if you shoo them away they go ...this one didn't, he kept coming at us. It was pretty scary. We eventually managed to get passed him and made a quick run for it!
We saw another naughty monkey opening the tank bag on a motorbike. He helped himself to the carrots and was scared away by a shop owner but not before he had grabbed himself a can of beer! Luckily, he didn't make it further into the bag to find the motorcyclist belongings!
Shortly after we were picked up by a lovely family who had given us a lift earlier in the day. They said as we were heading the same way as them we could go along to the viewpoints with them and they would then drop us back in town ... So kind.
Once back in Kodai we visited another church and ate Biryani nearby with raita and samba. We took a different route home up a winding hill.
Later we again grabbed our fleeces before coffee and cake called for us.
Tonight we have 3 huge blankets!
