Eventually we dragged ourselves from the comfy seats and off we went to find the temple that must have moved on MapsMe. In fact we not only found the oldest temple in Chiang Rai but others too. We even accidentally discovered today is a bank holiday. We saw a building and grounds beautifully decorated with flowers so asked a local lady why? It was to commemorate a King from the past and today was a bank holiday.
During our temple tour we picked up many snacks and even treated ourselves to a coconut ice cream from a little old lady ringing her bell and pushing her cart. We did still manage lunch too. We were told we were getting fried rice but out came chicken rice - far better!
We were tired from our sightseeing, shopping and eating excursion so we nipped back to the hotel to rest our feet and wait for the night walking market. Also it gave us chance to drop off the mangos for breakfast.
Walking is good for us. We walk everywhere. We even walk in the wrong direction. The advantage of this is finding new and exciting things. As we walked past a large building we could hear a live band. It sounded great so we had a peek. Yes it was a live band and wow what a party. The crowd were loving it, singing and dancing and the music really was great. As we entered the building we noticed the sign on the wall. This was no bar but a gospel church!
We continued our journey towards the walking street. It took us a while to get to the area it was at. Once we finally arrived we looked around and ... it wasn't there. Probably cancelled due to it being a holiday. Never mind - we stopped, watched a local basketball training camp and ate noodles. We picked up some sticky rice on our way home to go with our mangos for breakfast!
