Temples
Not such an early start. We stayed up late sorting future travel arrangements so didn't wake up! Eventually we headed out to explore. First stop was Mr DIY, a big hardware store that sells some pretty interesting things. We only stopped there because it was on our way to the main temple in the city of Phitsanulok, Wat Phra Sri Rattana Mahathat.
The temple was really amazing with lots of separate rooms and corridors. There were some great Buddha statues and pictures and lots of gold.
We continued along the river to Wat Rat Burana. Over the river we visited the ruins of the Chan Royal Palace with its interesting collection of rooster statues.
There were some bikes along the river for excercise but as you turned the pedals they pumped water and squirted it out of a fountain in the river. Well, they almost did. It dribbled out a little bit!
We passed a really pretty coffee shop which had some beautiful paintings on the walls inside. One of the staff took our photo in front of a number of them!
We ate at a little cafe where they served a weird kind of dish. It was noodles, cabbage and egg. It was a little like a cabbage omelet and the locals were smothering it in hot spicy sauce.
The evening was spent at the local bar with live music. The singers were great and we helped the locals sing happy birthday to their friend who received 2 cakes.
