Paradise Lost
We didn't do a lot but just sat. Nothing woke us up other than the sound of the birds ...
We spent the day sitting, watching the wild life in a myriad of colours. There is a overhanging plant at the front of the house with beautiful purple flowers. Every night the flowers fall and in the morning the floor is covered with the beautiful flowers.
Lunch time our friends took us to a very popular little cafe but first we had to cross the river on the wire bridge...
On the way to the cafe we saw a man climbing a coconut tree. He managed to cut off quite a few and very kindly gave us 2. He chopped them so we could drink the fresh water and chopped them again so we could finish the tender flesh.
The restaurant was packed with a large group. We managed to find a seat and ate paratha that was torn up with chicken, vegetable gravy and a fish sauce. All very tasty.
We continued to eat fruit all day. Fresh papaya, guava, jack fruit, bananas, water melon. You name it, we had it! Delicious.
As the sun was setting we returned to the river. Our friend had a boat. A large Canadian canoe. We mounted from the bank and he paddled up the picturesque river collecting friends as we went. I think we started with 3 people and ended up with 9. We collected paddles and propelled ourselves towards the setting sun which was magical!
Water buffalo bathed in the river and the heat slowly turned to a more pleasant temperature. People lined the bridges and chillaxed for the evening.
2 rivers met and we took the best option. We stopped for tea at the end of the route and ate some snacks. Egg bhaji and a sweet pastry type thingy.
On the way home we dropped people off, saw fireflies and darkness. Illegal sand collection boats appeared from the darkness going about their work. One was anchored and we hit it's anchor rope hidden by the dark. We went around and back on course.
We disembarked at our entry point. Had more fruit that had been prepared by yet another lovely family. We continued to the house amongst the trees and ate again! Tiny little fish caught just before sunset, wrapped in tiny rice pancakes. They were very tasty indeed!
We chatted until it was time to sleep.
