Local Speciality
Up early to eat breakfast with our friends. We were kindly dropped off at Toll Plaza to head to the centre of Amritsar.
The bus was crammed and we wedged ourselves amongst the mass of standers. 20 minutes later we arrived.
We decided tea was needed before our walk across the city. A small 'old school' street stall provided our refreshment. We watched Amritsar life go by as we walked to find Nutri Kulche. A special place had been recommended and we were on a mission to find it.
And, we did! First we ordered a single plate to try but soon went back for a second.
Next stop was the Durgiana Mandir which was just like a mini golden temple.
On our way out of the temple we spotted a little sweet stall. We inspected the wares and settled on milk cake. It tasted just like old fashioned fudge, it was great. Whilst we stood and ate our sweet we watched as people came to the stall and bought small bowls of curd, which they then gave to the street dogs. We also noticed a man have a lassi. It looked too good not to have one. We watched as the man put curd into a large urn and twizzled it with a wooden twizzler. He then added some milk and we assume some sugar and we were presented with a large, frothy cup of delicious lassi. In order to round up our bill we decided to spend the change on some more milk cake.
We made our way back to the bus station and boarded another crowded bus. Back at base we had a bite to eat and sat chatting to our friend and his friend who had come to visit.
