Farewell Khajoraho

Before breakfast we sat and chatted to our friend's father, who wanted to know all about England.

We then ate lots of toast before the preparation of lunch began. Today's lunch was to be a Khajoraho egg curry. There was a lot of preparation including making a ginger and garlic paste, a tomato sauce, boiling and frying the boiled eggs in spices ...to name but a few. The end result,.. delicious, spicy egg curry. Unfortunately as Christine is still feeling a little delicate her lunch was more toast!

The afternoon was spent chatting and packing our bags. Before we left we prepared some veg and had toasted veg and cheese sandwiches and drank hot clove water.

Darryl then negotiated a good price for an electric rickshaw to the railway station for our 21.30 train to Lalitpur. On arrival at the station we were surprised how busy it was .... with both people and cows filling the platform.

Tickets were purchased for general class, as all seats and sleepers were fully booked. This meant boarding the train and hoping to find a seat somewhere.

We chose a quiet spot to stand on the platform as getting on a train can be quite a mission when it's busy.

We had chosen a good spot as people didn't push and shove too much. The area outside the carriage was quiet, which is unusual, so we found a spot and sat on the floor. A family boarded and one man was very concerned we were sitting on the floor and wanted to know why. We explained we had been unable to book a seat. He told us to wait and entered the carriage. He returned a few minutes later and asked us to follow him. He took us to his compartment, introduced his wife, brother and daughter and asked us to join them His wife then produced a plate of food for us. Unfortunately much of it was too spicy for Christine at the moment so Darryl had to eat most of it. Every time we thought he had finished some more arrived . They were so kind and generous.

One of the men started to watch a movie on his phone.  Darryl was looking so the man produced a set of Bluetooth earphones and gave Darryl one so he could listen.  Christine was getting a little sleepy so the other man kindly let her lay on his bed, whilst he sat, so she could sleep.  The kindness of strangers is extraordinary.

We arrived at our station around 1am. said our thank yous and goodbyes...we now have a 3.5 hour wait for our next train.
