Prayer Flag Hill
First things first, tea delivered to our room, what a nice treat!
We then headed out to find breakfast. We found a nice little cafe with a beautiful view of the hills. We ate gobi parathas and drank more tea.
We followed the road towards Happy Valley. Once we left the main road it was downhill, into the valley.
However, once in the valley, the only way was up, to Prayer Flag Hill. Half way up is a beautiful stupa. At the top a Buddha statue and then beautiful views of the mountains. There were various couples having their pre-wedding photos shoots.
We are told on a clear day you can see the Himalayas... unfortunately today was a little hazy but the view still amazing. There were rows and rows of prayer flags which make a lovely colourful addition to the blue sky and mountain back drop.
We walked as far as we could and got chatting to some guys on a day trip from Dehradun. We had our photo taken, swapped numbers and said good-bye as they were heading back down. A little while later, as we were starting to make our way back we saw one of the men. He was searching for the owner of the car who has blocked them in!
Luckily it wasn't long before he located him and then kindly offered us a lift back to town. We were dropped off and then it was time for lunch. We found a little cafe serving thali, which was delicious.
After filling out bellies we went to a lookout we had found the night before and had a cup of tea whilst enjoying the view.
It was starting to get a little chilly so we headed back to the hotel. After a short rest we donned our coats and headed out. First stop, more tea. We then popped to the bus station to check on onward bus times. As we headed back to the town we could hear music..and there were lots of people...we were told it was to do with the students elections. They were dancing in the streets and throwing firecrackers. We managed to squeeze past the parade.
We walked to the other end of town to check the other bus station before slowly making our way back. We met the student parade coming the other way and they were now setting off fireworks in the street. We saw two youths about to light them very close to us and as we turned to get away, a kind man opened his shop door and let us stand in safety - whilst the bags went off.
We returned to our hotel and treated ourselves to another tea, delivered to our room (oh, and biscuits and peanut brittle too!) Australia beat Afghanistan tonight by a close margin in the cricket and we got to watch on Kevin. Kevin is the brand of TV in our room!
