Lookout

A leisurely start to the day. We paid for a further night and ordered chai to our room ...

Eventually, we made it out. We first walked along Mall Road before finding a small restaurant for aloo paratha. It was really good but had quite a few hot green chillies inside. As we looked out of the restaurant there were large portraits painted on the wall opposite. We looked at the restaurant owner and realised one of the portraits was of him! And a very good likeness it was too.

We continued our journey, always heading up, through long windy lanes. We arrived at Chaardukaan, a small row of cafes near the top. There was also a cute church nearby and a military base. We continued past them and along a circular route through the forest. We passed a view point, an old cemetery for British malaria victims and a beautiful old colonial style house. The view was nice but a lot of beautiful large trees often obscured it.

We followed the same route down and walking down was definitely quicker. We stopped to look in a number of antique shops displaying many items from the British past. Thali was calling and we stopped again at the same restaurant as in the morning. Darryl had the Thali and Christine ate rajma rice.

We stopped further down the road for 'chai with views' and watched men making shoes, before heading the final km to our hotel. It starts to get quite cold at 4pm so we needed to collect our coats. Also we needed to eat some of our bananas, biscuits and wash in down with 'room service chai'. Whoever knew so many different forms of chai existed!

A little R and R whilst watching BBC news in English on TV before heading back out into the cold night (1st night was the coldest). We walked a little along the well lit Mall Road, explored a small alley of local shops before heading home for a movie. A Christmas one! Earlier in the day we saw an old projector and information plaque. It seems movies in Mussoorie is a thing.
