Dwarka

Once the sun came up we headed out of the train station.  There were cows everywhere, not a lot of traffic and just a few people.

We walked towards the town and were surprised to find nothing open at gone 6am, very different to any other part of India we have visited.

We were not able to check into our accommodation until 13.00 so headed straight for the DwarkadishTemple.  On the way we passed a small but beautifully coloured stepwell.

We walked through the gates to the old part of town and headed for the water.  Then we discovered where everyone was!!  It was so busy down by the bathing ghat, with people bathing in the Arabian sea, but only up to their waists as there were some very big waves coming in.

Next we headed to the temple only to be told it had just closed ... It was 8am.  We were a little confused and they told us it opened again at 9pm. We decided to go in search of breakfast and come back later in the day.

We stopped at a little cafe and had breakfast and chai and sat for a while watching the world go by.   A youngman came to talk to us and it transpired the temple closed occasionally for pilgrims to make their offerings and the temple was, in fact, now open again.  We headed back and went in to the see the beautifully carved temple, set up on a hill with great views out to sea.

On the way back down we were told that lunch was about to be served for 30 rupees each for a Gurjarati thali, so we purchased a ticket and joined the queue...the food was very good.

By now it was midday so we decided to head to the hotel to check in, freshen up and catch up on some sleep.

We ventured out again around 17.30 to see the sunset over the Arabian sea and the lighthouse which was very pretty.

The town looked very diffent at night with a real buzz and lots of restauants.  We eventually settled on a south Indian restaurant had a delicious masala dosa, one our our favourites from our last trip to the south of India.

We then headed to the bus station to check out the timings for our onward journey in a couple of days before slowly wandering back to the hotel for some more sleep.
