Sharkie
Up at 6 and a short walk took us to the Perama bus. They used to offer a service that included one free stop off but now this is no longer an option. Perama must have taken a huge hit during Covid like the rest of Bali but slowly it is coming back to life.
The shuttle bus did pick up and drop of other people enroute to Amed in Ubud, Padangbai and Candidasa. Amed was the last stop and this was the one for us. The driver kindly dropped us off outside our hotel, which was great!
Our room wasn't ready so we headed up to the new roof terrace restaurant overlooking beautiful countryside. We chatted to 2 girls whilst we waited. One from Finland and another from the Netherlands. We talked about all sorts of things. Both of them are working as they travel, which now seems to be the norm. It also means a lot of cheap accommodation is booked up long term by these digital nomads.
Once in our room we dropped everything, locked the door and went to find food! We didn't have to walk far and we spotted her. 'She' was the gado gado lady from our last trip. We just had to have some. She served us a huge bowl and we thought it was to share but we were wrong. She made us another. Wow, it was great!
Next we collected our snorkelling gear and walked to the beach. There were a couple of yachts anchored in the bay. We strolled along the black sand for a short time before taking the plunge. The water has a fair bit of floating debris washed in during the winter rains.
Snorkeling was enjoyable. We saw turtles, big fish, millions of small fish too numerous to mention all of their names and we also saw a black tipped reef shark!
We snorkeled for a while, walked a bit and then snorkeled some more. In the end it was a long walk back and it got dark! However, we did find our way home.
Dinner was the Indonesian staple of Nasi Goreng with a twist. It was good but not enough for 2 hungry people. We stopped at a tiny funfair and watched the locals enjoying the games. Plus there was a short visit Alphamart and a fruit stall to stock up on gooodies.
Another dark walk home past the barking dogs. Long day done!
