Michael Jackson School of Dance

Peanut butter always helps you start your day on a good footing. Today was no exception and we certainly needed the energy.

We took a 5km walk to Kollam beach. We stopped at the sewing shop to see how the holey trousers could be fixed. The answer was - buy a new pair! We stopped for tea and a sweet, fried, spicey ball thing! We also stopped at the Michael Jackson School of Dance to peek inside. We ended up being invited to join in, so we did! We followed the dance teacher's moves closely or at least we tried. They were pretty tricky! Luckily after 10 minutes, the power died and the room went silent. This was a good time to stop and take photos!

Hot and rather sweaty we said our goodbyes and left, continuing our walk to the beach. We passed a big black crow and next to him we spotted his little friend. His friend was a little white frilled lizard of some kind. Very cute. The scenery changed as we approached the main Kollam beach. It became a land fill site that went on for miles, lining the port. Whether the mass of garbage is shipped in and dropped here or it is collected locally, we are unsure. We are sure however that the burning of it stinks and is probably toxic! Not too far away in Cochin the local news has reported on a similar burning issue at a dump. Toxic waste was pollutingbthe city from burning plastic. We believe acid rain has now improved the air quality a little.

The beach was a beach. The rubbish decreased slightly and it looked as though the beach had been combed. Fish stalls lined the road but we didn't stay long and started our journey home, along a slightly different route.

We ate a nice chicken biryani and the busiest restaurant we found. It was good! We drank coke and then stopped for tea as the weather was hot, hot, hot!

At our accommodation we chilled out under the air conditioning until it was time to search for food. There was a small cafe at the end of the street serving paratha so we had 2 each and chatted to the locals. We searched the streets for Chai but everyone had gone home and closed shop. We gave up, retreated back to base and watched R,R,R (Indian movie and Oscar winner!)
