Under the Boardwalk

A little lie in this morning to recover from the late night zoom talk at the CA. As we ate some much last night today a single banana sufficed.

This morning's adventure led us along the river to the Mangrove Boardwalk. It was nice and shady amongst the trees which was just what we needed. When the sun is out, it is hot! Half way along the boardwalk there was a brand new concrete lookout tower. We climbed to the top to admire the view over the river and surrounding area. There was a nice cool breeze at the top so we stalled for a while before heading down again.

The mangrove roots are an interesting tangle of support. When we reached the end of the boardwalk there stood a partially completed jetty. Eventually, it will take people across the river to the cave on the other side. We stopped and watched a variety of weird crabs going about their daily business. The strangest ones had only one in large yellow claw. Others had 2 claws but we're bright red!

After watching the little crabs fighting, we started our walk back along the boardwalk towards 'home'. On the way we checked out a variety of food options but finally settled for chicken noodle soup, virtually at the end of our road. We couldn't see the sweet, green juice food stall. We concluded they must be nocturnal creatures! Actually, in Krabi town the afternoon is deadly quiet. We think they are hiding from the midday sun. Home next, both fell asleep ...

The 1 Baht water machine search continues...The closest machine is locked away behind shutters most of the time. We are not sure why so we went in search of another. No luck after walking quite a way amongst local houses. The 1 Baht water machines hardly exist in the south. The locals are using huge plastic bottles from a water filling station now rather than the machines. The problem is the bottle is 100 Baht before the refill and we are then stuck with it! It won't fit in our bag as it is bigger than the bag. There doesn't appear to be a deposit system so we can rent a bottle so we might have to get water from 7-11.

We walked a long way and chilled off in the shopping centre with Thai iced tea before going back to the hotel to prepare for the night market.

The night market provided entertainment of sorts. An older lady was singing rather squeaky traditional Thai songs. She was accompanied by a squaky violin, a squeaky drum and some squeaky dancers. Food from a stall satisfied our hunger. One of the dishes was some kind of fish or seafood, like mussels. It was fried, in breadcrumbs? and curly. Very weird!

We had a good look around before moving on to the next market. Here we acquired 2 more curries and rice. One was fish and another was spicy! We could barely eat the spicy in one as it was so hot. The fish was good though ...

Back to the hotel as sleep CV was due.
