Scrambling
A bit of a lazy start due last night's forward planning. Our friend was busy today so we were left to explore alone.
We walked to our first stop along the main road which wasn't overly pleasant. It is fast, windy, the motorbikes are slightly crazy but we made it. Well almost. Before our first tourist site we nipped in to a really busy local cafe on the roadside. We had a delicious meal of chicken, coated egg and curry sauces washed down with teh tarik. Sooo good!
We continued our adventure to the beautiful floating Mosque. We had to cover up at the entrance to enter. Darryl was given a sarong to cover his hairy legs and Christine was given a full gown to cover everything. It had a hood too and she looked like the grim reaper!
We removed our shoes and stepped onto the most beautiful silk carpet that covered the whole mosque. Wow, it was beautiful and felt amazing on one's feeties. The mosque was super ornate with beautiful tiles covering the walls. The view from the mosque was something else. A beautiful building.
The guard outside the mosque stopped us looking at a few of the Islamic leaflets. She then proceeded to fill our arms with the free information beckoning us to take it away. "Free, free," she shouted and we went on our way hands full!
Next stop on the map was a Hindu temple but unfortunately this one was guarded with a pack of growling dogs. It was quite small and probably didn't warrant a real close look anyway.
The main road route back home wasn't that appealing so we opted to try a route along the beach. We saw a huge monitor lizard run into the sea, climb a large rock and sun bathe. He was real big! Along the beach ther were many lizard trails with there tail marks making it obvious that more were around.
The beach route was a little awkward as there were giant boulders to clamber over as well as the soft sand. We found a big boulder and went to sleep hoping not to get sunburnt as it was cloudy. We studied our Islamic literature once awake before the next obstacle on the route to get back up to the road required a little rock climbing, bouldering, tunnel traversing, sea avoiding. The rocks with water on were super slippery and as hard as we tried we couldn't find an easy route, so kept back tracking. Eventually, we spotted a short climb that might be doable. It was but only just as the top of the slope was soil, loose rocks and risky! There was a tree part of the way up to hang on to and a compilation of crawling, praying and luck saw Darryl to the top. A disturbed rock that fell (and hot Christine on the hand) warned her that this was not the way to go. She retreated and found an easy option not far away. We soon met up again and continued the short route home along the main road.
For dinner we hit the night market of Batu Ferrenghi. There was plenty to see and choose from, once we had battled for a parking spot. We settled for peanut covered glutenous rice, Malaysian fruit salad, Malaysian rice and noodle dishes, fried crispy fish made even crispier in the air fryer when we got back. We shared everything, had a great feed and went to bed happily full.
