No hurry!
A lazy morning disappeared fairly swiftly. We were due to meet some travellers we had met in Penang at the train station. They were just passing through on their journey to Langkawi. We found them and searched for lunch. It was mid afternoon again, so many places were closed. However, we did find an amazing little Nasa Kadar stall that was open. Simple, delicious food that has a legendary, addictive flavour. We all thoroughly enjoyed our meal and shared stories before we needed to leave.
The bus was due at 13.30 that would deliver our friends to the coast where they could catch a boat to Langkawi. We asked a few people if we were waiting in the correct place and they assured us it was. Soon after the bus appeared, dead on time. They left and we returned to air conditioning until the evening.
Time for food, so we started our search. We walked down the main road and some lights and music caught our eye off to the left. We crossed the busy roundabout and were surprised to find a huge food festival that started today at 11am. It appeared to be street food products that were new to Malaysia and the fair was a platform to promote them on social media. We sampled all sorts of things including an Indonesian dish of giant meatballs that a very kind lady gave to us. We posed for photos for her to add to her 'new food Instagram account'. One stall had some pretty nice ice cream infused with cream cheese and white chocolate. It was delicious so we had to buy one. We still needed more food so we headed across the street to a Malay restaurant. We shared a Nasi Kandar meal with chicken and egg. Next stop was the Menara tower, all lit up for at night. There was also little kiddie cars with fourwscent lights and a band playing nearby. We listened for a while before
we thought we would be clever and follow a short route back. Instead of following the main road we took the back streets. Never again as it was more like the dog streets. Loads of stray dogs blocked the route. They were either sleeping or barking at us ... a lot! Eventually, the main road appeared and we escaped! Along the road a little further, a man spoke to us. We turned and he asked us to come over. We went and he introduced himself as the restaurant owner. He wanted to chat in English. His friends came and went. We chatted and shared cultural differences between countries. At 2 am, the restaurant was closed down by the staff. We left and arranged a meeting with the owner's friend for tomorrow.
