Plastic Sea

Same morning routine today. Breakfast, coffee, banh my ...

We once again left our hotel at lunchtime and headed to the beach. Walking on the sand all afternoon was great. We saw a group of fisherman hauling in their nets to the beach and waited to see what they'd caught.

In the net there was lots of small fish and a couple of big ones. A few days ago we noticed that some of the beach had areas covered in rubbish. It suddenly dawned on us that this rubbish was being dragged in by the fisherman in their nets! It was shocking. Plastic bottles, aluminium cans, plastic bags... VERY BAD! If this is just dragged in from one small area of ocean then we are in real trouble! As we travelled a little further we found more on the beach predominantly dragged in by the nets. Many elaborate crabs and shells, fish, shrimp, eels ... DEAD and just lying on the beach discarded from the nets...VERY BAD! Quite upsetting for us ocean lovers to see.

Eventually we came across a beautiful temple. We spent some time taking photos and enjoying the ambience.

Walking on the beach eventually came to an end and we followed the main road up the hill towards the huge Buddha statue. We passed a pretty lake but decided the statue was a bit awkward to get to. We diverted into a marina. There were hundreds of fishing boats floating between the marina and the beach. The marina felt just like we were in Greece. It was white washed and painted blue just like Santorini. There were only local fishing boats there and a few wealthy people having relaxing drinks.

We walked the same route back to our hotel. Enjoying the glorious sunshine!

Dinner was at a small restaurant near our hotel and consisted of rice soup with huge chunks of pork, black pepper, corrinder and garlic. Great.

We decided to walk a different route to see what we could find before turning into the beach road. Here we discovered lots of sea food restaurants with tanks. It was a grim sight. All of the fish, sharks, cuttlefish, lobsters and giant grouper didn't look well at all. And, we are certain they didn't like being couped up in  tanks ready to be eaten. VERY SAD.

Music was playing in a couple of bars and we listen for a short time before calling it a day.
