Ducks

A late start today after a nice lie in. After breakfast of banh mi with eggs and Vietnamese coffee, we sat and chatted to our fellow guests. Afterwards we started to some essential research on our forthcoming destinations.

Before we knew it it was mid afternoon and food was calling once more. There are not many places to eat at our end of Tam Coc so we walked in the direction on Na trang and found a lovely cafe where we had greens fried with garlic and lots of rice ... very satisfying.

We then walked to Hang Mua, a popular spot for watching the sunset. However, we arrived at the same time as bus loads of tourists.  This helped us make the decision not to pay to climb the 500 steps to the top.  Instead we headed off to find somewhere nice and quiet to watch the sun go down.

As we walked we saw some water buffalo in a field so headed down a track to take a closer look. We then watched the sun set behind the beautiful limestone karsts. Having checked our map found we could follow the track back to the village rather than going back the way we had come.

We spotted a man waving a white flag so walked over to see what he was doing. In the canal there were hundreds of ducks and every time the chap waved the flag, the ducks would swim on.  At the end of the canal all the ducks got out and followed by the chap, waddled through the village until the chap shouted a command whereupon they all turned immediately left into a yard .... quite a sight to watch!

We then headed back to our homestay.  We joined the other guests in the lounge and suddenly the TV came on at full volume, followed by the production of 2 microphones from our host and before we knew it a karaoke session had begun!

After dinner we bid farewell to the other couple as they caught the night bus to their next destination.  Our host then treated us to some delicious homemade Vietnamese spring rolls.

We sat chatting to our host and he told us his middle daughter, who is 8, is in the school dance team and would like to be a dance teacher.  She then joined us and gave us a fabulous dance lesson. She sat and practiced her English with us too. A great end to the evening.
