Temple Festival
We had to get a move on this morning as we had been told of a temple Festival. And ... we wanted to be there to witness the celebrations. We almost didn't make it as a pack of aggressive dogs lined the entrance. Luckily for us a little local lady came and hurried them along waving a red rag.
The day was spent listening to stories read by the temple monks. The offerings donated by individuals and organisations were quite spectacular. We were invited to stay for the day and we were given food and drinks by the organisers. The temple was nicely decorated and hundreds of fruit and vegetables hung from the ceiling.
We spoke to a lot of the guests and enjoyed the stories even though they were in Thai. There was an interesting moment when the monk stopped reading and said in English, "I think I need a coffee!"
The heavens opened later in the afternoon but we were protected by the tin roof. However, the tin roof made quite a lot of noise so the monk paused until it eased. It was a thoroughly enjoyable experience.
Shopping for thank you cards filled the rest of our afternoon before it was time for dinner. We went to the market to try and find our snack lady but she wasn't there today. That wasn't a problem because we found some melon flavoured coconut desserts to try and some iced green tea. Both were really aroy (delicious). We ate out main meal just outside the market and the street seller did an amazing job of fried pork and chicken. Although the 2 dishes were cooked in the same wok, the flavour couldn't have been more different!
We then had a night of river walking and street art photography before heading home.
