Sukhothai

We left the hostel for the bus station with another couple from the UK. They were also catching the mini bus to the ancient city of Sukhothai. On our short walk we succumbed to hot soya milk and doughnuts, which were pretty good.

The bus left on time and we slept most of the 1 hour journey. We were dropped at the old city where we hired bikes for the day. We paid the entry fee to the park and headed off to discover some temples in the ancient capital of Thailand.

The temples and the grounds were really beautiful and there was hardly anyone there.  We saw the odd tourist but most of the visitors were Thai primary school children on school trips. They all waved and said hello as the Farangs passed by on their bikes!

After spending time inside the park we left in search of lunch. There was a local market in the centre of town where we decided to eat. We spotted a few dishes we thought looked good and the lady selling them offered us a spoon of each to try. We decided on the ones we wanted and  they were bagged up for us to take away. The lady then produced 2 disposable bowls so we could eat at the market, she showed us where we could buy rice too. The whole experience was really friendly and the lady was super kind and helpful. The food was also fantastic.

We had seen a lot of temples inside the park so after lunch we took our bikes and rode around the perimeter. We saw the old walls of the city and heard shouting coming from down a small track. Intrigued, we headed off to see what all the commotion was about only to find lots of men betting on a cock fight. We didn't hang around.

We caught the minibus back to Phitansulok at 4 o'clock and jumped out at the Topland shopping centre which was really close to where we were staying.

The evening was spent at the night market searching for food and chatting to the English couple we had gone to Sukhothai with.
