No Hurry

Why rush? We have lots of time in Chiang Rai! We had a leisurely breakfast, kicked back with coffee before hitting the road.

We followed the river until we got to a bridge. We crossed it and walked a while. We spotted lots of street art and accidentally stumbled across the Royal Chariot Museum.

On we went but food was calling. Chicken rice was to be the dish of the day. We went easy on the spicy sauce which was super hot but covered our meal with the sweet soy sauce.

We were getting closer and there were loads of police lining the route. We asked, why so many police? The answer came back - school, which wasn't quite as exciting as the last time we were in Thailand. Last time it was the King and his entourage that drove past.

The blue temple stood out. It is not finished but it is a very beautiful building and worth the walk.

We decided we should head back to base and drink iced coffee before our next adventure - trying to do the laundry. All went well with washing. In went the 10 Baht coin, washing powder and clothes. A timer popped up on the screen and 58 minutes later it was done. It was a relief that it worked automatically because none of the dials and buttons made sense to us. They were all labelled in Thai.

After hanging the clothes to dry we headed out to find a restaurant. Tonight we were heading to a different part of the city. We found hot soya milk and donuts on the way and decided on a small restaurant. The writing was in Thai, no one was eating so nothing to point at. No menu or pictures - ordering was tricky! Luckily, a kind gentleman came to our rescue. We told him how much money we wanted to spend and he passed on the message that we like everything. Hey presto 5 minutes later a tasty dish of rice and chicken curry appeared.

On the way back we checked out a small fruit and vegetable market but it was closed. As we continued our journey we heard an unusual noise. We were walking down a small lane with houses but couldn't work out what the noise was. Darryl went to investigate and found the building where meat is prepared for distribution...
