Hualampong

We caught a couple of buses across Bangkok. The final one delivering us to Hualampong Train Station. We had heard that this central station is being made into a railway museum. However, it still remains as a working station for the moment.

We were a little early for the train to Phitansulok so decided to search for a food court that we discovered on a previous trip. It didn't take much searching and we recognised it nestled amongst the railway offices.

Our train left platform 10 on-time and we started our journey to the north. We were glad to be inside the train because it started raining a lot. We passed a number of small towns but Lopburi caught our attention. We had decided not to stop and explore here because of the monkeys! From the train we spotted them, literally thousands everywhere! We had made a wise choice.

The train rumbled on past some beautiful golden temples and giant Buddha statues before it started to get dark. It wasn't mosquitos that appeared at dusk but these funny little flying creatures with huge wings. Oh and the odd stick insect too.

The train rolled in about an hour late but right next to the station was dozens of food stalls. We grabbed a bite to eat before walking 5 minutes to our hostel.

The hostel was really cool and we chatted to the owner, who was originally from Southampton! He told us all about the local area and offered to show us around. He showed us rhe excellent mosaics he had made during Covid and we spent the rest of the evening in hammocks on the roof.
